Guest speaker- Keith Fergus on freelance photography and his book on the River C
At the meeting on Tuesday 9/03/10, club president John Zawadzki welcomed guest speaker Keith Fergus, photographer and writer. Keith gave a very well recieved talk on freelance photography and his book on the River Clyde. Keith, a printer for 17 years had always been a keen hillwalker. He would also document his walks and keep a photographic record of them. He succesfully submitted articles to the Scots Magazine and other such publications. A few years ago he collaborated in the production of his first book, which took readers on a trip from the source of the River Clyde, through rural Lanarkshire, urban Glasgow, through the historical centre of shipbuilding and onward to Greenock. Touting their idea and creation, they were taken on by a well known publisher. He has not looked back since. He finally took the plunge 18 months ago and became a professional photographer. Keith has also written various guide books and continues to write articles for various publications like the Scots Magazine and The Great Outdoors. His talk was accompanied by some of the photographs taken during the compiling of the book, some of which made the book and others which did not.
His talk was informative and inspiring, showing that someone with such a love of a subject can, with commitment and patience, turn a passion into a career.
It was a very enjoyable evening ending with Keith answering questions and signing copies of his book.
